Discoveries by Female Scientists that were Credited to Men

Discoveries by Female Scientists that were Credited to Men. There was a long list of women that took part in the research and innovation field as scientists although there were more men that were part of this field. Some women were recognized and famous for their discoveries but some other female scientists were not that lucky because their discoveries were credited to other scientists that were all men.

Properties of Chauloogra Oil for Leprosy Treatment

Alice Ball was the first woman and also African-American graduate student who got her Master’s degree and a professorship at the chemistry department of the University of Hawaii. Her study was focused on the chaulmoogra oil properties that could be used as a promising leprosy treatment at the time. However, it was difficult to use the properties because of the chemical makeup it had. The injectable form was developed by Ball to isolate the active ingredients so the treatment would be more effective. Unfortunately, she died before her study could be published and other scientists took the credit for this work.

X-Y Determination System

Nettie Maria Stevens was dedicated her career to the beetles’ study. From observing the beetles, she had noticed that the differences of the chromosome from the beetles could also be found in other animals as well as humans. The X-Y determination system concept was developed by Stevens. It was stated that two large sex chromosomes or XX was used for determining the female offspring while the large and small sex chromosome or XY was used for determining the male offspring. The same discoveries were found by Edmund Beecher Wilson around the same time. Wilson took all the credit for these discoveries because Stevens was discriminated against as a female scientist.

Luminosity and the Period of the Cepheids Relationship

Henrietta Leavitt was working as a female astronomer that analyzed data for Idnplay Poker Harvard College observatory. She was assigned to measure as well as record the stars. With the brightness would turn on and turn off at certain intervals. After more than 2,400 stars recorded, she found the relationship between the luminosity and the period of the Cepheids that are variable stars. Without this discovery, the astronomers would not be able to see the universe in a completely different way. This discovery helped astronomers measure the distance to other galaxies. It was also used to understand the scale of the universe. After her death, her discovery was used by Edwin Hubble to help him build observations called Hubble’s law. The law stated that continuous expansion can be found in the universe.

Nuclear Fission

Nuclear fission was discovered by a group of scientists that consist of Lise Meitner. Along with fellow scientists including Otto Robert Frisch and Otto Hahn. The nuclear fission process was used for developing nuclear weapons as well as generating electricity. She was an Austrian that worked in Germany after acquiring a professorial title in physics. She had to deal with gender discrimination as well as anti-Jewish law at the time. The nuclear fission discovery was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Chemistry to Hahn exclusively. She never partook this award at all.
